This jewelry box was a birthday gift made using a variety of hardwood species and joinery techniques. The curved sides of the box are cherry, and were mitered, then reinforced with walnut splines. The bottom is 3-ply bamboo that elevates the box to create a thin shadow line along the bottom. The lid is composed of four pieces of laminated walnut burl which fit into a rabbet cut into the sides of the box. The handle and the inserts (which fit into dado’s cut into the cherry) are made out of sapele and were sanded to a lower grit to have a more tactile quality.
